Self reflection

What’s happening and why?
- Shared novel to a whole team. Children were note taking or doodling key parts of the story.
- Children 1:1 on devices researching for inquiry. There was some confusion about the inquiry process when I spoke to the children. They were all hugely engaged in using the devices and researching facts. Children had choice over the topic they were researching.
What’s not happening & why?
We share the novel to our whole team at the end of the day. We haven't given children the option of doodling or note taking. This could be something we try in the future however we would need to think carefully about how to manage this.
What am I going to do to influence what is not happening?
I would like to give the children choice on how they like to listen (doodling, lying down, note taking, on the couch etc). A challenge of this is our lack of space suitable for all of our learners. How can we keep our big team feel but increase the flexibility for children?
Wisdom: As I reflect back on the last 2-3 weeks what am I learning about myself &/or my teaching practice?
I think our new structure of having smaller groups for inquiry means our learners have a good understanding of the inquiry process. As a school perhaps we need to look at the inquiry structure we are using and get some consistency with the vocabulary being used at each stage.
I would like to visit some different schools in the future for walk-throughs. I think this would give us the opportunity to see some different styles of practice outside of our wee bubble.
