Meet the Teacher
I found meet the teacher an interesting experience! There were several positives such as meeting a few new parents and being able to have everyone who attended ‘on the same page’ for the year ahead. However…. Not many of my parents attended and I ended up sending the majority of the information packs home with children the next day. I am wondering if this means that the parents in my class feel confident enough to not attend or wether there is another factor contributing to the low attendance rate. I would like my parents to feel welcome in the classroom and to realise they are a vital part of their child’s education even as year 4s move towards more independence at school. I am wondering how I can keep parents involved in the life of my classroom, especially those parents that do not very often attend school events. I am using my class blog and email to communicate with parents but any other ideas on how to engage parents we hardly ever see?
