Four minute walk through

Today we walked through the Junior Block.
What did I see?
- all children were highly engaged in hands-on activities.
- a range of reading to, reading with and reading by
- there was a wide variety in teaching approaches depending on needs of children and teacher preference.
- team-wide shared literacy beliefs on the wall (for parents? teachers?)
What did I not see?
- 'structured' activities, children were enjoying playing with technology and hands-on tasks
Questions:
- some collaborative spaces were 'blocked' by shelving or furniture, why?
- cohesiveness as a team? Each space was doing something very different, is this intentional?
What am I going to do?
- Do we need to formalise our pedagogy around our literacy programme? I feel as a middle school we run similar programmes during literacy however this is more through discussion than formal procedure.
- This also solidified the real need to transition Year 3s into Middle School learning gently as it is quite a different programme. We have seen a huge change in our class this term and our year 3s are now really embracing the Middle School variety of literacy however this was a bit of an uphill battle at the start of the year! Do we need to talk about this transition as a whole school?
